Overview:

Take your wheel throwing to the next level with our Intermediate Wheel Throwing course! This 4-week program is designed for students who have taken the Single Visit Wheel Throwing class and are looking to continue learning wheel thrown pottery. Practice with a seasoned instructor in weekly sessions. Fine tune the basic throwing skills plus trimming, handling, lids, etc. Class is for 4 weeks, but students can join the class at any time. Teacher will individually orient new students each week and then work with current students on their projects.

6:00pm - 8:00pm (Each class is 2 hours)

Lesson 1: Collaring in a narrow neck

Master the nuances of creating narrow-necked vessels while maintaining even wall thickness. Learn techniques to prevent buckling and rippling when shaping gooseneck openings and other challenging forms. Our expert instructors will guide you through precise hand positioning and pressure control to achieve professional results.

Lesson 2: Centering large lumps of clay

Discover techniques for successfully centering clay amounts of 5+ pounds without relying solely on strength. Learn to work smarter, not harder, using proper body positioning and leverage to create large vessels like fruit bowls, planter pots, and statement vases with confidence and consistency.

Lesson 3: Pulling Walls to 10+ Inches High

Conquer one of pottery's most challenging skills - creating tall, even-walled vessels. Learn the secrets of proper clay preparation, consistent grip techniques, and how to respond to wall abnormalities as they develop. Create impressive vases and vessels that showcase your advanced throwing abilities.

Prerequisites:

This class is designed for beginner & intermediate students who have:

  • Taken Intro Wheel Throwing Single Visit Class

  • Have a desire to continue learning throwing in a fun helpful group atmosphere.

What's Included:

  • Unlimited recycled clay during class sessions

  • Use of all studio tools, aprons, and equipment

  • Firing of 1 piece per class

  • Expert instruction and hands-on guidance

  • Option to attend daytime open studio hours for additional practice (clay and firings are charged separately for open studio)
